A Legacy of Championship Golf

From the beginning, the plan was to create an incomparable showplace for the game of golf. For over a century, Medinah has played host to some of the most notable and historic tournaments in the world, including:

Medinah Country Club hosts the 40th Western Open Championship, where Bryan Nelson wins his third major title.

U.S. Open Championship (1949)

Medinah Country Club hosts the 49th U.S. Open Championship, the first of three U.S. Opens held at Medinah. Cary Middlecoff wins his first of two U.S. Open titles.

Western Open Championship (1962)

Medinah Country Club hosts the 59th Western Open Championship, where Jacky Cupit beats out the "Big Three" in golf: defending champion, Arnold Palmer; the rookie professional, Jack Nicklaus; and Gary Player.

Western Open (1966)

Billy Casper wins the 63rd Western Open Championship at Medinah after defeating Arnold Palmer in an 18-hole playoff at the U.S. Open for his second National Open title.

PGA Championship (1999)

Tiger Woods wins his second major title at the 81st PGA Championship at just 23 years old, beating 19-year-old Sergio Garcia, who tied the course record with a 66 during the first round and hit the "shot heard 'round the golf world" in Sunday's final round.

PGA Championship (2006)

Tiger Woods captures his second PGA Championship title at Medinah, becoming the only player to win a PGA major championship twice at the same venue.

Ryder Cup (2012)

Medinah Country Club hosted the 39th Ryder Cup in 2012. The "Miracle at Medinah" is widely regarded as one of the best sporting comebacks of all time and the greatest in Ryder Cup history, with the European team securing an outright victory on the final day after being down to the U.S. team 10-6.

BMW Championship (2019)

Medinah Country Club hosted its first BMW Championship in 2019. Justin Thomas shattered the course record (set the day before by Hideki Matsuyama) with a 61, and would go on to win the tournament.
